Immpecable dental care is essential to the health of your teeth, your mouth, and your entire body. To be truly effective, your dental health regimen should consist of both at-home care and regular visits to a dentist. If you're looking for ways to improve your dental health, make sure you keep up with the following techniques.

Effective Brushing

Dental CareBrushing twice daily is a good start, but it isn't enough to ensure tooth health unless you're doing it correctly. Make sure to choose a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the tooth surface and brush in circular motions. Your bristles should sweep along and under the gumline, but be careful not to scrub too hard and irritate the gums. Keep brushing for a full two minutes each time, making sure to scrub every accessible tooth surface and your tongue.  Electric toothbrushes are available to purchase from our office for your convenience.  Please ask your hygienist how the use of an electric toothbrush may help you improve your oral health.

Proper Flossing

Similarly, it isn't enough just to run a strand of floss between your teeth. Make sure to pull the floss tight against the surface of your tooth, forming a U shape, and move it up and down along the full length of the gap between your teeth. Then, pull the floss tight against the other tooth and repeat the process. Continue this way through your whole mouth, cleaning every gap twice and using a clean section of floss each time.

Regular Dental Visits

Your dentist is your top ally in the fight against tooth decay. If left untreated, a small cavity will develop into a major infection, which requires a root canal. If you have regular dental visits, your dentist will catch problems early enough for simpler, less invasive dental care treatments.

Orthodontics/Invisalign

Straight teeth are easier to clean effectively, which makes them less prone to cavities. Having your teeth even and appropriately spaced also strengthens your bite and reduces the risk of unusual wear or cracks on individual teeth. For the best dental health, ask your dentist whether you would benefit from orthodontic treatment.

No matter the state of your dental health, you can improve it by renewing your commitment to good dental care. Review your oral hygiene routine today, and call your dentist to schedule your next appointment.
