3 Stretches to Do After Hitting the Gym, Statesboro, Georgia

Below are three stretches to complete post-workout: 

  • Swan Stretch: Similar to the cobra pose in yoga, the swan stretch is a fantastic move that concentrates on your shoulders, chest, back, and abs. Lie face down on the floor and place your hands in front of your shoulders with your fingers facing forward. Keep your legs pressed together like a mermaid tail and press your hands into the floor as you lift your upper body off of the mat. Hold the pose for 30 to 45 seconds, making sure to contract your abs and drawing your shoulder blades together. Repeat the move for a total of five sets.
  • Butterfly Stretch: When it comes to a pose that pulls double-duty after the gym, nothing is better than the butterfly. This stretch targets the neck, back, glutes, hamstrings, and thighs. Begin by sitting upright with your knees out to your sides and the soles of your feet touching. Grab your feet and pull your upper body toward the ground, making sure you stay within your comfort level. Hold the pose for up to two minutes, then slowly release and return to an upright, seated position.
  • gymStanding Triceps Stretch: Elongate your neck, shoulders, back, abs, and triceps with this all-encompassing stretch. Plant your feet hip-width distance apart and extend your arms over your head. Bend your right elbow first so your palm touches your upper back. Then, using your left hand, grasp just below your right elbow and gently pull it back and toward your head. Hold this pose for 45 seconds, then switch arms and repeat.
