Since its construction in 1925, Brookings School stood as a significant symbol of Springfield, MA, history. Unfortunately, the 2011 New England tornado outbreak struck the city, leaving major destruction in its wake and severely damaging the educational institution. As the structure was in no condition to safely hold classes, the school was closed until plans for repairs and a rebuild could be carried out.

Determined to be back up and running in time for the start of the following school year, it was decided modular classrooms would be built, so studies could resume without delay. The Dwyer Company was asked to be part of the project, and the expert helical piles installation happened.

helical pilesAs a well-known foundation repair specialist in Ohio and Kentucky, The Dwyer Company has provided numerous construction jobs with cost-effective, valuable infrastructure solutions. It turns out they were the perfect choice for the project.

The temporary classroom buildings were built as one- and two-story structures supported on concrete piers. There were several challenges from the beginning because of soft soil, continued rain, and heavy groundwater slowing down the development efforts.

This was when the professionals at The Dwyer Company were commissioned to step in and use their expertise with helical piles to redesign the foundation. After installing 40 to 45 20-foot piles each day, they delivered the finished results within seven days. This was an immense help in getting the entire project back on the tight timeline it needed to follow for classes to resume as scheduled.

The Dwyer Company was proud to be a part of such an important and successful job, which ensured the students of Brookings School were able to continue their education without any setbacks from the devastating storm.
