When your baby is sick, you’d do anything to make them feel better. At Tinkelman Pediatrics in Brockport, NY, they’re happy to offer tips to parents looking to calm their ill children. With help from a skilled pediatrician, you can make the experience of being sick less stressful for little ones.

Pediatrician Offers 4 Tips for Calming a Sick Baby

1. Install a Humidifier to Help Them Sleep

PediatricianIf your baby has a cold or similar respiratory condition, sleep won’t come easy to them. Installing a humidifier in their room will keep their nasal passages moist, easing some of their symptoms and aiding their ability to fall asleep. This also reduces stuffiness and coughing.

2. Feed Them Warm Fluids

When a child has a cough, feeding them one to 3 teaspoons of warm apple juice four times a day will thin out the mucus. However, it’s still important to schedule an appointment with your child’s pediatrician if they’ve been coughing.

3. Put Them in a Warm, Moist Room

Another remedy for a baby’s cough is to run hot water from the shower or bath, keep the bathroom doors closed, and set a blanket on the ground for babies to sit on. The hot water will make the room moist, replicating the benefits of a humidifier even if you don’t have one on hand.

4. Use Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen

When a baby has a fever and their discomfort is visible, contact a pediatric care specialist and ask them to recommend a dose of ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If your baby is less than six months old, though, you should not give them ibuprofen.

Most importantly, bring your infant to a pediatrician you feel comfortable with to alleviate their symptoms. At Tinkelman Pediatrics in Brockport, NY, they’ll make sure children receive the care they need. Contact them online for more information about scheduling an appointment, or call (585) 637-0060.
