When your HVAC system breaks down, it’s a frustrating and inconvenient situation. However, when you’re aware of some of the most common air conditioning problems, you’ll have a better chance at solving them efficiently. Here are five air conditioning repair issues to look out for:

  • Blown Fuses/Tripped Breaker: If your AC unit stops cooling, check to see if the outside unit is coming on.  If not, check your panel box for tripped breaker- when in doubt, turn the breaker off and back on. The disconnect box by the ac might contain fuses.  Once the power is turned off at the breaker, check these fuses.  You can bring them in to our store for us to check them for you if needed. It’s always a good idea to call your local HVAC technicians to try to determine the cause.
  • air conditioning repairBroken Fan: If your air conditioning system overheats or trips your circuit breaker, the outdoor fan may have stopped working. To blow cool air, both the indoor and outdoor fan needs to function properly. Schedule air conditioning repairs at your earliest convenience.
  • Inadequate Refrigerant: If your AC unit does not contain enough refrigerant, the air circulating through your property will be lukewarm. If you find you cannot sustain your unit’s level of refrigerant, there may be a leak in your system. Older units may use the old style, obsolete, R22, that has become quite expensive.  It may be time to replace rather than repair that older air conditioner.
  • Frozen Coil: If the flow of air from your air conditioning system seems restricted, your coil may have frozen. A clogged air filter or low refrigerant is typically the cause of a frozen coil. Check and clean your filter, and, if needed, your local HVAC company will be happy to repair the issue in a jiffy.
  • Non-Functional Outdoor Unit: Another very common cause of air conditioner issues is a lack of function of the outside unit. Faulty thermostats may be the culprit, and you should book an air conditioning repair appointment ASAP to have that taken care of, or stop by our store for thermostat options.
