The Ultimate Core Workout Inspired by Circus Performers, Robertsville, New Jersey

Diet and exercise are important to a healthy lifestyle, but if you don’t keep it dynamic, it’s difficult to stay motivated. To get you excited, the team at New Jersey Circus Center in Morganville suggests challenging yourself with several core workouts that are influenced by circus performers’ routines. By incorporating these moves into your weekly lineup, you’ll quickly notice vast improvements in your abs.

Strength Training Core Workouts

As you attempt the following exercises, remember to do slow, controlled reps with ample breaks between sessions.

Resistance Bands

core-workoutAcrobats and trapeze artists need serious core strength to perform their high-flying acts, so abdominal workouts are a prominent part of their fitness routine. A great exercise you can easily replicate is crunches using resistance bands. Place the band on the bottom of your feet while holding the opposite side. This forces you to move up and down more slowly, intensifying the effects. To work the obliques, place the band under your right foot. Then, grab the band and bend to the left as far as you can, extending it over your head for ten repetitions. Repeat with the left side.

Hanging V-Ups

This exercise is perfect for beginners. Find a surface to hang from, such as a chin-up bar. Slowly bring your legs to a ninety-degree angle, then gently lower them back down. Adding ankle weights increases the difficulty and can enhance results. Try to do just five reps at a time, building your way up to 10.

Aerobic Conditioning

Circus acts are a total body workout, so performers can’t ignore their cardio. If you’re not a fan of running, consider some common aerobic exercises popular in the industry. For example, trampolining is a great way to build lung and heart endurance while practicing new moves. Other performers like to jump rope to quickly elevate the heart rate.
