As your child prepares to head back to school, their eye doctor wants to make sure they know everything they should about caring for their contact lenses. At Wing Eyecare, with locations throughout the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area, the experts will be happy to offer essential tips for keeping contacts in great shape as the school year begins.

Specifically, their eye doctors recommend the following:

  • Get a New Case: You should replace your child’s contact lens case every three months. Doing so keeps their eyes safe from germs. The beginning of the new school year is one of the best times to purchase a new one, since you’re likely going to be out shopping for school supplies anyway.
  • Eye Doctor Florence KYBrush Up on Basic Health Info: To ensure your child’s vision issues are being properly addressed, consider scheduling an eye exam at the start of the school year. This also gives you an opportunity to discuss important vision health issues. For instance, you want to remind your child how important it is to not fall asleep with their contacts in, as doing so can lead to an infection.
  • Know Where Contacts Shouldn’t Go: If your child will be swimming during gym glass, remind them contact lenses should not be worn when they enter the pool. It’s also important for them to remove their contact lenses before they shower.
  • Don’t Wear Them Longer Than Necessary: Ask your eye doctor how long your child can wear a pair of contact lenses before replacing them with another. Although you don’t want to be overbearing, make sure your teen knows when it’s time to start wearing their next pair of contacts.
