Getting partial or full dentures can be a big lifestyle adjustment, and, while they may not be your real teeth, you still need to keep them clean. The staff at Kimberling City Dental Center in Missouri understands how important dental hygiene is for every patient with dentures. Here, they offer three valuable tips for keeping them clean and safe.

3 Tips for Keeping Your Dentures Clean

1.Use Warm Water & a Soft Brush

Hot water may be great for cleaning household items, but dentures don’t fall into that category. Boiling water can destroy the plastic of your dentures, so use warm water to clean them thoroughly. A soft toothbrush is best for cleaning dentures, but you can also purchase a brush made for them. This will be slightly bigger than a toothbrush and have two different heads for brushing.

2.Stay Away From Toothpaste

denturesToothpaste is great for cleaning teeth, but it’s too abrasive to be used on dentures. Using toothpaste can cause tiny scratches in your dentures, which will cause bacteria and odors to get trapped. You can purchase pastes and cleaners specially made for dentures, but hand soap or a mild liquid dish detergent will also work.

3.Store Dentures Safely Overnight

Dentures are relatively fragile objects that can break when they are dropped in the sink or on the floor. Additionally, they are tempting for pets and young children to play with. Therefore, you should find a safe place to store them overnight and whenever you’re not wearing them.
