The next time a light bulb in your home burns out, consider making the switch to a light-emitting diode (LED) bulb if you’re not already using one. These light bulbs are incredibly energy-efficient and tend to last longer than other lighting technologies on the market today. If you are still using incandescent light bulbs in your home, below are a few of the benefits you could receive by changing your table lamps and ceiling lights to LEDs.

3 Reasons to Upgrade to LEDs

1. Brightens Dimly-Lit Rooms

Most light fixtures can only handle a 60-watt standard, incandescent bulb; so, if you only have a few lighting fixtures in a room, this can leave it looking a little dim. However, it is possible to brighten the space by using 17-watt LED bulbs, instead. These light bulbs are the equivalent of 100-watt incandescent bulbs, which means your lights will put out twice the light (Lumens) while using much less energy.

If you like the yellowish glow of incandescent bulbs, you don’t have to lose that when you upgrade to LED bulbs. These light bulbs come in a range of color temperatures, which means you can choose warm, yellow bulbs for rooms that you want to feel cozy, and true, white lights for your kitchen, office space, and garage area.

3. Saves Money

Over a 10-year period, a 60-watt incandescent bulb would cost about $90; however, an LED light bulb of the same watt equivalency would only cost $18. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. An incandescent bulb might be less expensive to purchase compared to an LED bulb, but, on average, the former only lasts up to 1,200 hours. An LED, on the other hand, lasts up to 25,000 hours. This means for every LED light bulb, you would need 21 incandescent ones.
