If you run a high school sports team, are involved in an intramural league, or are looking to stock up on spiritgear for your school, you'll likely be going through the screen printing process. Sports & Sports, one of northern Ohio's top sportswear destinations, offers a useful primer on the screen printing process for athletes, coaches, and everyone looking to express a little team spirit.

A Guide to the Screen Printing Process

What Is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is the process of printing icons, letters, names, and other images onto clothing, including jackets, T-shirts, jerseys, and hats. It's especially important in youth and high school sports, where dozens of teams need customized jerseys and uniforms.

How Do You Select a Design?

screen printingYou'll work with the screen printing professionals to choose the right design for your apparel. The complexity of this stage varies depending on whether you're ordering everything with the same design (for, say, high school spiritwear), or need each piece of apparel to be customized (sports jerseys with players' names).

Once the design is agreed upon, the screen printing team goes about imprinting the image onto the clothing through a process that involves paint, a mesh screen, and a cutout of the image laid on top of the piece of clothing. The paint is squeezed over the mesh screen, where it seeps into the cutout, creating the chosen image.
