The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is an easy way to determine your eligibility for both federal and state student aid. This application will help you find the scholarships, grants, work-study options, and student loans you need to pay for your technical classes. You may be eligible if you are receiving your adult education at Berk Trade & Business School in Long Island City, NY.

4 Simple Steps to Complete Your FAFSA

1. Request an ID

The online system makes filling out and submitting your application easy. First, you need to set up an FSA ID, which allows you to save your form to finish it later or check on the status of your application. You can visit studentaid.ed.gov to create a new ID. If you request a new ID, you’ll need to wait one to three days for your account verification before filling out your FAFSA.

2. Start Online

This option becomes available in October of the year before your term, and it’s best to complete it as far in advance as possible so you don’t miss out on aid opportunities. Depending on the time you visit the site, you may be able to choose which school year you’d like to apply for. Choose the year closest to the current date, as you can wait for it to process before filling out an application for the following year.

3. Gather Information

If the application requests information you don’t have, you can save it while collecting the details you need. The site will typically ask for identifying information, such as your name, date of birth, and Social Security information. Enter this information exactly as it appears on your federal identification. You’ll need to list Berk Trade & Business School as your adult education selection. The application will determine whether you’re a dependent student, and if you are, it will ask for your parents’ information and any other applicable financial information.

4. Sign & Submit

The final step to submission can be performed online with your FSA ID, which will ensure faster processing than signing and sending the form through the mail. If you are a dependent student, your parent will need to sign it as well.
