Slow kitchen or bathroom drains can be extremely aggravating, often leaving unsightly messes in sinks that cause you embarrassment when you're entertaining guests. Luckily, there are some simple but effective solutions which will clear up all but the most serious pipe blockages—and all you need is to use a few household items.

Fast Rooter Plumbing LLC, Oahu’s most trusted plumbers, recommends you try these tips for clearing clogged sinks before resorting to harsh drain cleaners:

  • Try the simplest solution first by clearing away any debris by hand. Pull up the stopper in the bathroom sink and clean any hair, soap scum, or gunk off the bottom. Replace it and run some water to see if that helped at all.
  • Plungers are great for dislodging solid blockages further down the pipes. With standing water, plunge with quick, sharp motions. If it works, you should see the results immediately.
  • If plunging doesn’t work, you can make an environmentally friendly drain cleaner out of vinegar and baking soda. Pour about half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a similar amount of vinegar. It will start to foam immediately, almost like an elementary school science project. Let the foam do its work for three hours, and then rinse with boiling water.

If these solutions don’t work, you may have more serious problems deeper in the system, which will require the expertise of a professional plumber. Fast Rooter Plumbing LLC will clear your slow drains and take care of any other plumbing issues in your home or business, so give them a call at (808) 734-4938 to schedule a consultation. Your pipes will thank you!
