With an abundance of warm and dry weather this time of year, it’s a lot easier to complete construction projects in a timely fashion, including new floor installations. If you’re getting ready to rip out and replace your old floor, consider trying something new.

Here are three popular floor trends:

  • Blanched Hardwood Flooring: The traditional hardwood look isn’t necessarily the most authentic. After all, it still requires a staining product. If you’re interested in something refreshingly different than the perennially popular floor stains, you might be intrigued with blanched wood floors. Blanching removes the traditional and natural looking stain, leaving a slightly white-washed look that still showcases the natural wood grain of your floor. It’s like putting a sepia filter over your living room.

  • floor installationDistressed & Reclaimed Wood Floor Installations: You might not even need a new floor to enjoy these trendy styles. Many old homes and establishments end up with naturally distressed wood — but the downside is a lack of control on the degree of distress. If you’re interested in giving your floor a more worn appearance, many artificial “aging” processes allow you to get that stylish look, without having to wait so long. Using wide plank sizes, or more than one plank color, will add even more to the rustic look.

  • Sustainable Hardwood Flooring: One increasingly popular flooring material is bamboo. It is by no means new, but more people have been appreciating it for how fast it grows, its hypoallergenic properties, and the fact that it can be just as hard (or even harder) than traditional hardwoods. Cork is another sustainable flooring material, as the trees live for hundreds of years and do not need to be cut down; It is the only tree whose bark grows back after harvesting.
