It’s no surprise carpet consistently ranks as the flooring of choice for homeowners. Inexpensive, easy to install, and available in nearly endless colors and textures, carpeting lets you execute the look of your dreams regardless of your budget. Baffled and overwhelmed after a recent trip to your local store? A-1 Linoleum and Carpet Co. of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been providing carpet, tile, and hardwood flooring to residents for over forty years and offers a helpful guide to the most popular styles.

Read on for the basics of each style.

Carpet Construction Options

Loop Pile

Loop pile refers to those with fibers bent into miniature loops. Berber loop features short loops while multi-level loop carpets feature loops that vary in height for a more textured look. Cut low to the floor, these are extraordinarily durable and work well for homes with high traffic volumes. The downside to the loop pile, however, is that it only provides minimal cushioning.

carpetCut Pile

Cut pile refers to those in which the loops are cut to create a denser product with increased cushioning. There are five different styles of cut pile. These include plush, Saxony, textured, cable, and Frieze carpeting. Cable is considered the most comfortable while plush offers the most formal appearance of the five options. Choosing between the styles requires a trip a local store to get a literal feel for each option.

Carpet Fiber Options

Nylon

The most durable of the available fiber choices, nylon is one of the most commonly sold styles available. In addition to its durability, it’s also easy to clean, is highly resistant to stains, and effectively hides dirt in between cleanings. Families with a number of children or pets are advised to opt for Nylon carpeting.

Olefin

Planning to carpet a basement? Olefin is your best bet! Made from synthetic fibers, olefin is also referred to as polypropylene. As the most moisture resistant style available, this fiber is significantly less prone to mold and mildew damage.

Wool

Only natural fibers are used in the construction of wool carpets. The most luxurious of the style options, wool is also known for its durability and ability to resist stains. Given these are the most difficult to clean, wool is best used for accent and area rugs.
