Summer is here and the sweltering temperatures are sure to have you soaking up as much pool time as possible. But what about your pets? If you aren’t sure how to keep your pets safe in the Keaau, HI, summer heat, Bar-King Dog Kennel has several tips. With more than 35 years of experience, this local dog kennel offers your pets protection from the sun when you’re traveling during the summer months.

5 Ways to Keep Your Pet Safe & Cool This Summer

1. Stay Inside

Keeping your cat, dog, or other pets inside, particularly during the hottest times of the day, is one of the simplest ways to keep them safe.

2. Don’t Lock Them in Your Car

When it’s hot outside, the inside of your car is like an oven. Temperatures can climb 30 to 50 degrees or more above what it is outside in under half an hour. Pets can quickly become overheated, so never leave them in your car during the summer.

3. Supply Fresh, Cool Water

4. Exercise During the Cooler Hours

If you plan to take your dog for a walk or run, do so in the early morning or late in the evening when the temperature is cooler. Bring along water for both yourself and your pup to stay hydrated. Don’t forget to check the concrete temperature with the back of your hand—you dog’s pads can burn if the pavement is too hot.

5. Let Them Play

If your dog likes water, let them run through the sprinkler or get them a kiddie pool to lay in. Just remember to keep the pool in the shade where the water will stay cooler longer.
