If you’re moving and you need to ship your motorcycle from Hawaii to the mainland, you can rely on the team at M. Dyer & Sons to pack it up safely in a specially designed crate so it arrives unscathed. Based in Pearl City, they provide moving help to families throughout Honolulu, Kaneohe, and Kapolei. Below, they share a few tips for prepping your motorcycle before the big move.

5 Tips for Moving With a Motorcycle

1. Gather All the Keys

The movers will need one complete set of all the keys for your bike. This includes the key for the ignition and the one for any storage compartments that are mounted on the bike.

2. Check the Fluids & Brakes

There should be no more than one-quarter of a tank of fuel. Check the other fluids as well to ensure there are no leaks of any kind, and make sure the brakes are in good working order before handing your bike over to the movers.

3. Disconnect the Battery & Other Electronics

movingDisconnect the battery and any alarm systems before crating the bike. If there is a garage door opener attached, make sure you take that off, too.

4. Clean Your Bike

Clean your bike thoroughly before crating it. This includes wiping down the wheel wells and tires until they are free of dirt and grime.

5. Remove All Personal Items

Remove any saddlebags and other personal items from the bike before shipping it. This will ensure it fits properly in the specially designated crate and none of your personal items get damaged in the move.
