Your truck is a big investment, and to get the most out of it, you need the right gear and accessories. According to Countryside Welding, a custom fabrication and welding company in Kalispell, MT, two critical accessories for every truck owner are powder coating and Scorpion lining. Below, they explain what these products do, and why they’re a must-have.

Why Use Powder Coating & Scorpion Lining?

Powder coating and Scorpion lining protect your truck from wear and tear. Whether it’s a stack of cinderblocks you’re bringing to a job site or a dust storm in the desert, proper protection will keep your truck bed from scratches, dings, rust, and other damage. A lining protects the bed, while powder coating protects parts of your truck that take the most abuse during off-roading and tough conditions. The most common parts to powder coat include the chassis, bumpers, and rims since these tend to be the most exposed to the elements.

How Powder Coating Works

powder-coating-scorpion-liningThe first step in powder coating is to clean whatever parts of the truck will be coated to ensure the truck is grime, dust, and oil-free. Then a sandblasting process prepares the surface for the coating to adhere. Parts are then heated, and the coating is applied while they’re still warm. From there, the parts are heated again so the coating can cure, after which a clear coating is applied over the powder. After one final bake at about 400º Fahrenheit, your coating is fully adhered and ready to protect your truck.

How Scorpion Lining Works

Scorpion linings are made of high-technology polyurethane spray that, after being applied, hardens into a protective shield. This shield protects from scratches, gouges, and even the deteriorative effects of UV rays from the sun, which weaken unprotected materials over time.
