Well before moving day, make sure you:

  • Schedule a Vet Appointment: The first step in relocating a service animal to Hawaii is scheduling an appointment with your vet. There are a number of vaccines and procedures that must be completed prior to your departure. Your service animal is required to be up to date on their rabies vaccine, have successfully passed the OIE-FAVN test, and have been outfitted with a microchip. Additionally, you will need to prove your service animal has be treated with a long-acting tick repellant.

  • moving companyCollect All the Required Documents & Certifications: Once all the vaccines and required procedures are completed, the next step is collecting all the necessary documentation. You will be required to present verification of vaccines received, OIE-FAVN completion, microchip insertion, and a certification of your animal’s training as a service dog, as well as a doctor’s note confirming your need for a service animal.

  • Send All Documents Ahead of Time: Finally, to prevent stressful delays upon arrival, send all documentation to the Rabies Quarantine Branch before departure. Be sure to also send information outlining your arrival date and the location where you’ll be staying. This information needs to be received at least 24 hours before you arrive.
