A tradition among many neighborhood watering holes, dart boards are commonly found in sports bars, breweries, and even Irish pubs. Although designed to be fun, dart boards can be intimidating to walk up to and start playing if you aren’t familiar with the rules or any of the simpler games. Thankfully, the friendly, professional staff at The Office Lounge in Foley, AL, are knowledgeable about all sorts of sports bar games.

Below, they discuss three easy-to-learn dart board games, so you can get out there and play with your friends the next time you’re at a bar:

Cricket

barThe only numbers that matter on the dartboard in cricket are 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. To play, you have to set up the chart, either on a piece of paper or chalkboard, with the numbers 15 to 20 and a B for bullseye. The point of the game is to “close” the number before your opponent by hitting that number three times. If you hit a double, it’s worth two points, and if you hit a triple, it’s worth three points.

After you’ve “closed” the number, you can earn points off of it. If you closed 17 by hitting it three times, the next time you hit it, you earn 17 points. The winner is the person who has closed all of the numbers, including the bullseye and has the most points.

501

In the game 501, you start off with 501 points, and the goal is to get to zero points the quickest. You have to hit a double to begin the subtraction process and a double to win and finish the game. Therefore, if you have 80 points left, you need to hit a 20, 20 and then, a double 20 to win.

Shanghai

Often played with four or more players, the objective of Shanghai is to get the most points. To do this, players shoot at one number each round, until you’ve made your way around the entire dartboard. The first round starts with you aiming at the number one, the second round with number two and so on and so forth. If you hit the number of the round you’re on, that’s how many points you score. If you miss the number, no points are earned.
