Whether you pulled a muscle in your neck, strained your back, or hurt yourself with some other sports injury, visiting a chiropractor can help relieve the pain. However, the first time can be nerve-wracking if you aren't sure what to expect. If you need to find pain-relief, schedule an initial chiropractic consultation with Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center of Cincinnati. Dr. Mark Korchok has helped athletes throughout Ohio since 1988. He will not only make you feel comfortable in his office, but he will give you the support and relief you need. Here, he shares what you can expect at your first appointment with a sports chiropractor.

Medical History & Symptoms

Much like a traditional physician or dentist, you will have to fill out standard forms about your pre-existing medical conditions, family medical history, and health insurance plan. To better diagnose your issue and provide a treatment plan, the doctor will ask you numerous questions about your sports injury, including how you hurt yourself, when the pain started, if anything makes it better or worse, and so on.

Chiropractic Exam

sports injuryYou will first go through general tests such as pulse, blood pressure, and reflexes. Then, Dr. Korchok will exam the affected location thoroughly. He will assess the range of motion, muscle tone and strength, and the neurological integrity of the body. This information will give him an idea of the severity of your sports injury and how to provide you with relief.

Diagnostic Studies

Although it may not be necessary in your case, a sports chiropractor might request additional testing. These can include X-rays in the office, an MRI scan, or other imaging testing. This can help the doctor identify structural abnormalities that affect treatment.

After receiving the results from the testing, the chiropractor can diagnosis your sports injury and craft a treatment plan to alleviate your pain and increase your full range of motion. If you have suffered a sports or other injury that has resulted in back or neck pain, visit Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center of Cincinnati for expert care.
