When painting the interior of your home, it's important to have a game plan in place before you begin. Part of that plan should be a prioritization of the rooms in your home, from the most used and necessary rooms to the least.

Below is a general idea of how to prioritize your rooms for painting:

Bathrooms & Bedrooms

Bathrooms and bedrooms are the two most utilized rooms in any house. Painting these rooms first will ensure you still have a place to use the facilities and a comfortable spot to sleep while you focus on the other, larger rooms in your home. Also, the paint smell can be intense, and retiring to your bedroom at the end of a long day of painting can shut you off from the noxious fumes.

The Kitchen

paintingNext, tackle the kitchen. You want to be able to access your food and prepare meals as necessary throughout your painting. If you plan on dining out or ordering in during your paint job, get rid of any perishable foods that might spoil and invite pests or unpleasant odors into your kitchen.

The Living Room

The living room is typically the largest room in a home. Fortunately, with bedrooms to retreat to, it's not a high-priority room; you can take your time and paint it the way you'd like. Check that all your furniture, artwork, photographs, and other items are either moved out of the room or securely covered.

The Laundry Room

Save the laundry room for last. During painting, and for a few days hence, store all clothes hampers and dirty clothes in other rooms where the paint is already dry. This way, your clothes won't take on that paint smell, which can stick to you for days or weeks afterward.
