Visiting a masseuse can be a relaxing and therapeutic experience, but new customers might feel anxious about their first visit. Aisen Chiryo Doin, a shiatsu massage therapy center in Honolulu, hopes to put their minds at ease.

With more than 40 years of experience in shiatsu therapy, their team of professional masseuses recommends taking these tips into consideration before your first visit.

5 Things You Should Know Before Your Massage

1. Please Be on Time

Your masseuse has scheduled your appointment between others, so arriving late means you might not enjoy the full benefits of the time you’ve purchased. It’s best to reschedule if you’re running late.

2. No undressing

No one undresses.  We do shiatsu over your clothing.  Were loose, warm comfortable clothing

3. Don’t Wear Perfume (or Cologne)

4. It Shouldn’t Hurt

There are different types of massages and techniques designed to achieve different results, but nothing should cause you too much pain. If it does, let your therapist know immediately. They can adjust the pressure they’re using or move to another part of your body for treatment.

5. Don’t Eat Before Your Appointment

Eating stimulates digestion, which can leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable during your massage. Eat a light meal at least a couple of hours prior to your appointment. Be aware that massages improve digestion, so it’s OK if your stomach grumbles or you experience flatulence. Those functions are normal and common during massages.
