5 Ways to Prepare Your Child for the Learning Center

1. Choose a Great Program

Your little one will spend anywhere from three to eight hours each day at their learning center, so it is important to pick one they will enjoy. Browse your options to determine which program most appeals to you and suits the needs of your family.

2. Visit your new school with your child

A few weeks before their first day, set aside some time to visit.Call the teacher and schedule a time so you and your child can become familiar with the classroom and the teacher. Enjoy the play time together, ask questions, and become familiar with the daily classroom schedule.  

3. Get Your Child on the School Schedule

Waking up for school or day care may be difficult for your child if they are not used to getting up early. About a month before they begin their program, try to get them on the school schedule by going to bed and waking up early, eating meals at regular hours, and setting aside time for playtime and rest.

4. Read About School

Browse your local bookstore for stories about school. There are plenty of titles that feature your child’s favorite characters going to class for the first time. Read these books together and discuss the characters’ feelings and experiences.

5. Pick Out a Backpack

Before their first day at the learning center, take your child to the store to pick out a backpack and lunch box. Allow them to choose the bag themselves and emphasize this is a “big kid” activity. Doing so may help get them excited about their new experience.
