Economy Moving & Storage is a supremely-trusted Cincinnati moving company that knows a thing or two about best packing practices. A proud family-owned business, the folks at Economy have been taking care of local and long-distance moves for many years, and have become known for their superior crating, packing, shipping, and moving services.
Today, these moving gurus would like to outline their three most valuable moving/packing tips for anyone who is about to embark on a big or small move:
- Make sure you tape the boxes properly: If your boxes are not assembled and taped correctly, then they might buckle or even break, potentially destroying their contents (a.k.a. your belongings). Tape should be secured tightly to the box so that the overall structure is sound.
- Don’t use lots of tiny boxes: While it may seem like small boxes are easier to move, oftentimes this is not the case at all. In fact, it will likely take movers longer to complete the job if you use lots of small boxes, as opposed to fewer medium-large sized boxes. This oversight can cost you extra money if you’re paying by the hour.
- Fill in all the gaps: When you’re packing breakable items like wine glasses or dishes, be sure to use lots of newspaper. Roll each breakable piece in newsprint - start at the corner and then thoroughly wrap around the rest of the item. As you pack the box, make sure to fill in any spaces with crumpled paper, because you don’t want to have any gaps. When you have gaps in packing boxes, it increases the risk of breakage, especially with delicate items.
