For many homeowners, having a private septic system is a big priority. Unfortunately, depending on the soil conditions of the property, a conventional septic system may not be possible. The team at Manchester Aggregate Supply suggests you check with your contractor as to what type of system that you will need. If you are putting in any system,  Manchester Aggregate has various grades of aggregate materials for  your job site. For 40 years this aggregate distributor has served the Manchester, CT, area as a aggregate producer that is ready to meet your material needs.

According to the aggregate distributor, we have products that will meet your septic project.

Septic Tank

Deep underground, the septic tank collects all the wastewater and greywater. Everything that goes down the drains in the building ends up here. Over time, the sewage inside separates, with the heavier sludge sinking in the bottom and the lighter scum rising to the top. The sludge contains active bacteria that decomposes the contents and breaks it down.

Dosing Chamber

septic sandEffluent, the liquid that's been broken down by the septic tank, is then directed into the dosing chamber, which acts as an intermediary between the tank and the mound. Inside is a pump that pushes the effluent from the tank into the mound in small doses at regular intervals. This controlled dispersal ensures proper filtration.

Septic Sand-Filled Mound

Comprised of various layers, the mound is used to filter and treat the incoming wastewater. Unlike standard septic fields, it can’t be hidden underground. It can be very visible, some standing up to four feet tall. Strategic landscaping is required, not only to conceal it but to prevent nearby plants from becoming contaminated by contents of the mound.
