Ice Maker Repair Pros Share 5 Main Parts That Could Cause a Problem, Jacksonville East, Florida

As a key part of your freezer, the ice maker helps you stay cool and satisfied on hot days. When the machine suddenly stops producing ice, you may be in for an ice maker repair service. Understanding the ins and outs of the appliance is one of the most helpful ways to recognize that there’s a problem.

Here are the parts of an ice maker that a repair technician may inspect when it stops functioning:

  • ice maker repairWater Valve: Is the filtered water actually coming through the line? The valve is responsible for delivering water to the ice cube tray, where it freezes before moving into the ice bin. If the valve is broken, the ice maker may stop producing ice entirely, or the cubes may be oddly shaped.
  • Control Module: The ice maker’s electronic panel is the control module, which runs the motor and the machine’s assorted mechanical parts. There are rotating gears inside that ensure those mechanical parts work properly.
  • Thermostat: When the mold reaches a certain temperature and is cold enough, the thermostat turns off. The ice maker will then eject the mold’s current cubes and refill with water.
  • Ice Cube Mold: The mold is coated with Teflon® or a similar protective topper. If that coating is somehow disturbed or damaged, the ice cubes can actually get stuck inside the mold and prevent the ice maker from ejecting them.
  • Arms: There are three arms that allow the ice maker to run efficiently. The sensing arm recognizes when the cubes are frozen and ready for release. The harvesting arm releases the cubes when the mold is cold enough. The bail arm then opens a door for the cubes to enter the ice bin.

Any of these parts could contribute to a problem that requires ice maker repair. An appliance service professional can closely inspect the machine to determine whether the issue can be fixed simply. It’s best to call a repair technician as soon as you notice a problem it can be addressed quickly before it becomes worse.
