Termites are a pest problem that can go undetected in your home for years, causing extensive and costly damage. Because they hide behind your walls and underneath floors, it can be difficult to identify recent signs of termite damage before it’s too late. To help you identify early indications of an infestation in your home, the experts at Havasu Pest Control highlight three items below. They’ve assisted residents of the Mohave County, AZ, area with their pest control issues since 1972.

Here, the extermination experts outline three signs of a termite infestation in your home:

  • Mud Tubes: If you find a system of mud tubes at the ground level of your home, these are signs of termite activity. These tunnels are built to block cool and dry air to maintain the temperature and humidity levels they need to thrive. Remove part of these tunnels, and if a termite crawls out or the section is quickly rebuilt, this is a sign of ongoing termite activity.
  • Discarded Wings: When termites leave their nests to start a new colony, a group of them fly one at a time for a short distance, then twist their wings off once they land. Look near windows, doors, and other home entries for these discarded wings.
  • termitesWood Damage: An obvious sign of a termite infestation is if you notice signs of wood damage in your home. Termites will chew through the wood below and behind walls and floors in search of cellulose. Long grooves in wood is a sure sign of chewing, and this eventually leads to weakening of the home’s structural integrity.

The signs of an infestation are not always visible, but if you have suspicions, call the exterminators at Havasu Pest Control at (928) 855-1054. You can also visit their website for additional services including mouse and garden pest control.
