A school trip can be an opportunity for students to explore environments outside their classrooms, experience different cultures, and see real-world applications of lessons taught to them in class. It can also provide an invaluable chance for students to think outside the box, using their creativity to make connections not always possible at school.

Constitution Coach, based in Hartford, Connecticut, has been helping to fulfill the dreams of school field trips for over three decades, providing charter service for schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. Before embarking on your next great scholastic adventure, consider the following tips to make the most of your next class trip.

1. Establish a Clear Itinerary

Kids of any age love school trips and being away from the parents. Because of this, they can become more than a little animated. They also like to know what’s coming next. Outline each day’s itinerary with what you'll be doing every day of the trip, you'll make it easier for kids to follow along. Plus, showing them what's ahead could stoke their excitement.

2. Institute Clear Rules

Leaving the classroom means the dynamics between students and teachers are altered. That's okay, to some extent, but you don't want your students running over the chaperones. Convey the rules early and often. This way you ensure students are less tempted to break them.

3. Select the Right Chaperones

This is possibly the most underrated aspect of any successful school trip. Whether your chaperones are teachers, administrators, parents, or some combination of all three, you want them to strike the right balance between fun and responsible. The chaperones' primary responsibility is to account for all the children, at all times, but it doesn't hurt if they're outgoing and enthusiastic, too.

School trips are a chance to see how subjects like science, history, and art manifest themselves outside the classroom. If executed well, these trips can put a nice punctuation on a class semester or quarter.
