Whether your chaperones are teachers, administrators, parents, or some combination of all three, you want them to strike the right balance between fun and responsible. The chaperones' primary responsibility is to account for all the children, at all times, but it doesn't hurt if they're outgoing and enthusiastic, too. 

School trips are a chance to see how subjects like science, history, and art manifest themselves outside the classroom. If executed well, these trips can put a nice punctuation on a class semester or quarter.
