There isn't an area of your property that's free from the rigors of spring cleaning. Most people focus on the interior of their homes and leave the exterior for last. However, now that the weather is slowly warming up, it's a perfect time to start preparations for opening up your pool. This process can be overwhelming, but The Pool Guys in Troy, MO, have a few tips to make the process easier.

Some of their best tips for cleaning your pool in the spring include the following:

  • poolsClear the Surroundings: Even before tackling the pool itself, you should clean the area around it. If it's not clear you'll have difficulties keeping it clean later. Rake up fallen leaves, blow away grass clippings, and trim or prune the hedges.

  • Clean the Pool Cover: While it's still on top of the pool, sweep away the debris. If there's water on top, carefully pump it off. Once that's done you can remove it from the pool but don't store it away just yet. Thoroughly wash and dry before folding it up so you can quickly access it before winter arrives.

  • Lubricate the Bolts and O-Ring: Before you attach any accessories, such as the diving board or ladders, apply lubricant to the bolts to prevent them from rusting. Another piece you'll want to lubricate is the o-ring of the pump. Without lubricant, the o-ring can degrade quickly due to the heat, chemicals, and wear.
