If you are like most people, building your dream home is just the beginning of your journey. After all of that crown molding is installed and the light fixtures are hung, you have to move into the space and figure out how to make it feel like home. Fortunately, customizing your home doesn’t have to be expensive.

Here are three tips for decorating your custom home without breaking the bank.

  • Change the Paint Color: Painting a room might take a lot of time, but it is an easy way to completely transform the space for very little money. In addition to changing the color of the walls, you can also use painter’s tape and a small amount of a fun paint color to create wall designs like stripes.

Consider repurposing items from storage or filling a vase with flowers from your yard. You never know—that old vanity might make a cute desk for your office, and those tulips from your garden might make your dining room pop.
  • Shop Used: Although many people are hesitant to shop at thrift stores, these shops often carry one-of-a-kind pieces for a fraction of what similar items would cost new. Check out secondhand stores, garage sales, and the returned section of furniture stores to see if you can find pieces for a bargain.
