Your oil furnace can struggle to heat your home efficiently when it’s not kept clean. As such, you need to be aware of the basic components of your furnace that need regular maintenance. Here, the team at Loveland, OH’s Rick Ogden Heating & Air Conditioning discusses three parts you should clean regularly.

3 Oil Furnace Components You Should Clean Frequently

1. The Furnace Filter

To check your furnace’s filter, locate the panel on the exterior that’s below the return-air duct. In most cases, you can use a screwdriver to remove the panel and inspect the filter, although some have their own door. A visual inspection should tell you whether the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced.

2. The Burner Nozzle

furnaceIn most cases, you’ll need a professional to clean the burner nozzle on your furnace, but some people opt to do it on their own. Once the furnace is shut off, you can remove the nozzle from your furnace’s burner gun. After that, it needs to be soaked in kerosene for about half an hour to remove any built-up soot.

3. The Furnace Body

An often-overlooked part of furnace cleaning is clearing dust from around the furnace’s body. Once the gas line and furnace have been shut off, you can use a vacuum to do some cleaning along the outside. Wait until the furnace has cooled, and then remove as much dust as possible. This helps keep allergens and pollutants from circulating around your house.
