In addition to their full-time campus and online courses, Great Oaks Career Campuses in the Cincinnati, OH, area offers a unique selection of short-term classes. One such course currently offered by the trade school is Motorcycle Safety. This 16-hour class will teach all the necessary skills someone who wants to operate a motorcycle should know.

Before registering for this class, the trade school requires you to either obtain a temporary permit or already have a motorcycle license or endorsement (an add-on permit that allows you to operate a motorcycle in addition to other vehicles). Here’s what you need to know about obtaining each license for this class:

  • Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC): Visit your local BMV exam station to complete both a knowledge and vision test. You will then have 60 days to turn in your receipt of completion to a deputy registrar agency to receive a skills test waiver. Remember to bring two forms of acceptable ID and $22 to pay for your temporary packet.
  • trade schoolLicense: After obtaining your TIPIC and ensuring your street-legal motorcycle is in good working condition, schedule a skills test at your local exam station. After passing this test, you will need to present a document with your Social Security number and surrender your TIPIC to a deputy registrar agency. You will then be required to pay a fee, which will be determined by your age. If you are younger than 18 and seeking a motorcycle license, you will also be required to complete an approved driver’s education course, pass the Basic Rider’s Course, and complete the Fifty-Hour Affidavit before taking your skills test. A parent or legal guardian will need to be present to sign the license applications.
  • Endorsement: Anyone seeking a motorcycle endorsement must already hold a valid Ohio driver’s license. You will then need to visit your local exam station to pass a knowledge and vision screening. Within 60 days after passing your test, you will be required to obtain your motorcycle TIPIC from a nearby deputy registrar agency. Once you have your TIPIC, you are all set to take a skills test. After you pass it, return to your deputy registrar agency to pay your motorcycle fee and surrender your current driver’s license. You will be reissued a new license that includes a motorcycle endorsement.

If you’ve completed all the prerequisites for this Motorcycle Safety Class, register today.
