As a leading water restoration company serving the area of Lincoln, NE, All Care Restorations is committed to helping area homeowners maintain safe and hospitable living environments, while also saving as much money as possible. While their team specializes in handling large-scale water restoration projects, they want homeowners to know that a small, seemingly simple leak can lead to much larger issues if left unaddressed. That’s why they’re raising awareness this March with Fix a Leak Week.

Founded in 2006 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the WaterSense Program has helped homeowners save billions of gallons of water which would have otherwise gone wasted through leaky hoses, toilets, faucets, and shower heads. Every year during the third week of March, the program promotes the Fix a Leak Weak, an initiative intended to remind U.S. homeowners to check their households for potential leaks.

water restorationThe EPA estimates that leaks in the average household could result in up to 10,000 gallons of wasted water. In addition to hindering water conservation efforts, leaks raise monthly water bills. The good news is that fixing leaks could help you save up to 10% on your water bill.

Toilet flappers, shower heads, and faucets are commonly responsible for leaking water. To check for leaks in your home, take a look at your water meter before and after a two-hour window during which no water is in use. If the meter changes, it’s a likely indication that you have a leak. Additionally, you can put a drop of food coloring in your toilet and check back in ten minutes to ensure there’s no leak in your plumbing system.

What may start as one minor leak could lead to burst pipes and serious water damage. Remember to check your home for any potential problems this Fix a Leak Week, and should you find that you do have any water damage cleanup needs, All Care Restoration can be reached by calling (402) 421-3779.
