The heating season has settled down. I can get away from the shop to resume visits to some of the people and places our team at All Temperature Systems services for heating and cooling.  Rick Graves is the new owner and operator at The Paint Store on South Washington Street in Waupaca.  He was gracious to show me some of the neat things at his store.

Right away I found something “pretty” fun. The color book selection is awesome. I tried my hand (flipper) with some of the colored pencils. I was secretly hoping for a rival artist to challenge to a doodle. (Pun intended.)

 

 

 

 

More colors caught my eye. All the displays of colors were inspiring.  That is where Rick found me and offered to show me a little more about paint mixing.

 

 

 

Rick has a computer program that helps him create and match colors. Hmmm, penguin black and white, please!

Paint mixer! Do it again! Do it again!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I wanted to get the feel for the role of painter extraordinaire. Besides, I didn’t want to mess my All Temp uniform. 

Bummer. Painter pants didn’t come in sizes for the penguin.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The next thing Rick shared was his new paint line called Metropolis Ivas.  They are plaster products from Italy.

It is neat because it has resins added so that the plaster does not crack. Here Rick is letting me try a technique to add some texture.

Not too shabby. He is a very good teacher.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, even the best of teachers have the students who just don’t quite make the grade.  Fixing window screens proved to be much harder than it appeared.

“Um, Rick… HELP!”

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the rescue, my best efforts were directed back to the art supplies.  I think I just may have an alternative second career. This piece is titled, “Albino Penguin in a Snow Storm.”

I shall ride you back to the shop!  Well, it would have been fun. Back to work and be on the lookout for me around the area. You never know where I turn up next.
