Beginning and ending at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park, on the Northshore of Oahu, The Haleiwa Metric Century Ride is a must for bikers of all ages and skill sets. Hawaii’s premier bicycle store, Eki Cyclery in Honolulu, offers riders a guide to the Metric Century Ride and gives a glimpse into what to expect.
Bicycle Store Owners Explain What The Haleiwa Metric Century Ride Is
It’s a ride, not a race. All bicycle riders are encouraged to go at their own pace, and the roads will remain open to traffic during the race. The event begins at 7:30 a.m., but bikers are asked to arrive a half hour early. The ride covers a mostly flat terrain, with a few mild hills.
It will take riders through the town of Haleiwa, out towards Kaena Point and back through Waimea Valley, Sunset Beach, Kahuku, and Ka’a’awa. After riding comfort bikes to the finish line, riders are invited to join a day of music from various performers and a local high school band. Food, merchandise, and bike accessories will also be available for purchase.
How to Register for The Haleiwa Metric Century Ride at a Local Bicycle Store
Registration for the ride can be done at Packet Pickup day or on the day of the race (at 6:00 a.m.). The regular registration period ends on March 31; all registrants receive a Dri-FIT T-shirt. Late registrations will be accepted, but there will be a limited number of T-shirt colors and sizes available by that time. Registration can be done online with a processing fee for riders using a credit or debit card.
Bicycle Store Owners Explain What to Expect at the Ride
For first time riders, Eki Cyclery offers an overview of what to expect. Riders will line up close to 7:00 a.m. and will be grouped by age and skill set to ensure the safety of all riders. Aid stations are placed throughout the path for riders needing any kind of assistance.
The ride will cover the most beautiful beaches of the area before returning to the starting point for a full day of festivities. There is a safety video online for riders looking for guidance on how to prepare for the ride.
A beautiful ride for both novices and Hawaii riding veterans, The Haleiwa Metric Century Ride is a must for everyone.
