High blood pressure is common among Americans, but that doesn’t mean that it should be ignored. In fact, having high blood pressure puts patients at risk for serious health issues, such as heart disease. To help their customers keep their blood pressure levels within a safe range, the caring team from Hart Pharmacy has compiled some tips here. Since 1960, the pharmacy has been serving the Cincinnati, OH, community with personal attention and expert knowledge.
Here are some of the pharmacy staff’s best pieces of advice for safely lowering blood pressure:
- Skip the Salt: The Mayo Clinic recommends limiting your sodium intake to 2,300 mg a day or less if you’re trying to lower your blood pressure. If you have a sensitivity to salt, however, try to keep it below 1,500 mg.
- Perform Moderate Exercise: You don’t have to become a marathoner to reap the benefits of regular exercise, including lowered blood pressure. Just aim for moderate exercise for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. If you’re unsure about which types of exercise are safe for you, consult your doctor to come up with an exercise plan that will meet your unique needs.
- Try the DASH Diet: The DASH diet stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It consists of eating whole grains, low-fat dairy, fruits, and vegetables, and avoiding saturated fat whenever possible.
