Spring is here!  Even though we are experiencing the typical temperature swings, now is the time to start thinking about pre-summer HVAC and AC maintenance on your cooling equipment; be it a heat pump or an air conditioning unit. One of the biggest benefits is reducing or eliminating cooling problems throughout the summer when temps go up and your cooling equipment is working hard to keep you and your family comfortable.

DOES MAINTENANCE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Maintenance on cooling equipment has proven to save money in the long run by avoiding component failures or even breakdowns which are normally more expensive than maintenance.  As with any mechanical/electronic equipment, it will eventually give way to minor or major issues from continued use year after year.  An annual inspection with maintenance helps early detection of controls/components showing signs of wear than can lead to potential failure.   While there is no guarantee annual maintenance will keep your unit trouble-free, it will help prolong the life of your system and reduce early system replacement by up to a few years!

Other benefits of HVAC maintenance protects you against the cost of inefficient operation.  Several things like improper refrigerant level, a dirty filter, clogged coils, worn parts, incorrect blower fan speed, the thermostat set incorrectly or not working correctly, will strain the cooling unit and use more energy.  This decreases the efficiency of the HVAC system which means higher utility bill$ throughout the cooling season and the increased probability you will be calling for air conditioning repair service.

      Things You Can Do…

If you're a "hands-on" kind of person and are pro-active   in taking care of the most expensive appliance for your  home, here are a few things you can do yourself: change or clean the air filter every 3 months, check the thermostat for proper operation, make sure the condensate drain line/pan are clear and draining properly, remove any items/debris away from interior unit, and clean leaves/debris away from exterior unit.  Visit ABLE Heat & Cool's website for a DIY Air Conditioner Maintenance Check List
