Anyone who works at a computer all day is likely to experience back or neck pain at some point due to poor posture. In fact, sitting at a desk all day is a bit more tedious than it sounds—when we’re tired, we tend to slump in our chairs, but this can lead to poor chiropractic health and chronic problems in the future if left untreated. That’s why it’s so important to practice good posture at work. At North Pole Chiropractic in North Pole, AK, Dr. Jack Harrison D.C. provides relief for patients suffering from poor spinal alignment and encourages good posture for spinal health.

5 Ways to Practice Good Posture at Work

1. Stand Up & Stretch

Take a couple of minutes every hour to stretch or stand up and walk around. Not only will it disrupt slouching and keep you energized, but your eyes will appreciate a break from the screen.

2. Sit Up Straight

Whenever you catch yourself slouching, sit up straight in your chair. This seems obvious, but reminding yourself to sit up will help you do it more frequently. Try to keep your ears square with your shoulders.

3. Adjust Your Chair

First, adjust the height so that your hips are pushed all the way back in the chair and your feet are flat on the floor. Recline the back of the chair just past 90 degrees so that your whole back feels supported.

4. Adjust Your Workspace

Sit close to your keyboard if you can, and adjust the keyboard height so that your wrists are straight and don’t feel strained. Tilt the keyboard toward you if your chair is tilted back at all.

5. Support Your Wrists

If you still feel a strain on your wrists or you’re unable to adjust your keyboard, try wrist rests. They will cushion your wrists every time you take a break from typing.

Don’t accept back and neck pain as just part of the job. Good chiropractic health starts with good posture throughout the day. For pain relief from the negative effects of slouching, visit North Pole Chiropractic in North Pole, AK, for a consultation and adjustment. Call today at (907) 488-1885.
