Bruxism, more commonly referred to as teeth grinding, is the involuntary clenching of the jaw and/or grinding of the teeth. Generally, this occurs during sleep, but some people experience it while they are awake!

The most common signs and symptoms of bruxism include, but are not limited to:

  • Headache, jaw joint or ear pain; particularly upon waking
  • Achy (or “wobbly”) teeth; particularly upon waking
  • Aching or stiffness of the face, temples, and/or jaw; particularly upon waking
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Cracked or chipped tooth enamel
  • Raised tissue on the cheek caused by cheek biting
  • Enamel wear

Some of the most common triggers of bruxism emotional stress or anxiety, physical effort or stress – such as illness or dehydration, incorrect tooth alignment, drug abuse, and more!
