It’s estimated that over 1.7 million people in the United States are Presbyterians. You may even know someone who practices the religion. But what does it really mean to be one?

While the exact beliefs of a Presbyterian or the church they belong to may vary, it’s commonly understood that they follow the Bible closely and praise God as their savior. They often adhere to the teachings of the French pastor John Calvin and the Scottish minister John Knox, although their strictness can differ among churches and their pastors. Additionally, each church relies on the creation of leading authorities, known as the session, of religious elders who help guide both the church and its worshipers.

presbyterianBut a Presbyterian is more than the history and government of their church. They embody the personal beliefs they hold as interpreted by the Bible and, therefore, God. They aim to celebrate the love provided by their Savior, Jesus Christ, through congregation and worship.

Most believers also dedicate their lives to helping their church and their area — often through community outreach services. In fact, most Presbyterians believe it is their duty to use all of their God-given talents and abilities to help others in need, as well as educate them about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Knox Presbyterian Church, located in Cincinnati, OH, offers an array of worship services, community service projects, and Bible study programs to teach new followers about the Presbyterian faith. A staple in the neighborhood since 1895, the church provides a spirited service each Sunday and encourages everyone to attend. Contact the ministerial staff at (513) 321-2573 to learn more, and visit their website to find out their times of worship.
