FAQs on Moving in Rochester

How Can I Make The Moving Process Smoother?

  • Make sure all smaller items, dishes, lamps, glassware, books, etc. are properly and securely boxed.  Items labeled, according to destination is helpful as well.
  • Move boxes, bins and bags to a central “staging” location.  Having these items in an out of the way spot helps us to move the furniture safely and allows us to pack items as necessary, based on the size and truck space available.
  • Un-hook all appliances and electronics.  Water, gas and electrical lines should all be disconnected for moving.    Please remember to make sure to cap any lines (water or gas) when disconnecting your appliances.
  • Although we can dis-assemble and re-assemble many typical household items, such as bed frames, dressers, entertainment centers, etc. (assuming there is no specialty tool required); you may choose to have this done ahead of moving day, which can save on chargeable time.
  • If parking at either locations will be difficult, please try to make sure there is a place for the truck to park.
  • Clothing or soft goods can be left in dresser drawers, if you prefer.  Please do not place heavy, fragile or delicate items in the drawers.
  • Filing cabinets do not have to be emptied, assuming it is only paperwork and that they can be locked and are being moved from/to a ground floor location.  Depending on the circumstances (moving up or down stairs), it is recommended that they be emptied.

Apart From The Physical Move, What Else Do I Need To Accomplish?

  • Call utility companies, banks, local cable company, and other organizations you are subscribed to, days before the big move. Set up address changes through your postal service, credit card, insurer, and other companies that send you bills.

Which Mover Should I Hire?

  • Hiring a reputable moving company when relocating is critical. Doing so will ease the worry about your belongings arriving safely. Choose licensed and insured movers with an excellent reputation that have been serving the local Rochester, NY moving market for a long time.
