Since ATVs were specifically designed for all types of terrain, riding these vehicles has become a year-round activity. They are even used as a popular way to plow snow in the winter. Beechmont Motorsport, Cincinnati, OH’s leading ATV dealer, has listed some helpful winter tips so you can get more out of your machine.

5 Winter Tips From ATV Dealers

1. Replace Fluids in Your ATV

To keep your machine running efficiently during the winter months, use the appropriate types of fluid. Doing so will allow your ATV to start easier and run smoother. The oil, coolant, and lubricant you’re using should be designed for cold weather.

2. Lubricate All Control Cables

3. Check Your Tire Pressure

As the temperature drops, so does the amount of pressure in your tires. While it’s true that lower pressure can increase traction on snow and ice, too little may lead to poor steering and handling, irregular tire wear, and blowouts.

4. Add Fuel Stabilizer to Gasoline

An ATV’s fuel system is more vulnerable during winter because ethanol absorbs moisture from the air. Since ethanol-free fuel is not available everywhere, you can use a fuel stabilizer and add it to the gasoline you have instead.

5. Clean the ATV After Each Ride

If you ride in the snow and don’t have a heated garage, ice may build up in the radiator, wheels, and surrounding suspension parts. This can cause several issues, such as blocked airflow through the radiator and frozen brake calipers. To avoid this, clear all the ice and snow off the ATV after every use.

By following this maintenance advice and wearing the proper safety gear, you’ll have the best riding experience this winter.
