If you love watching movies on the big screen, building a home theater in your house is the perfect way to enjoy a cinematic experience in the comfort of your own living space. With modern-day technology, bringing Hollywood into your home is easier than you think!

Here, Dayton, OH’s Resolutions Sights, Sounds, Simplicity lists five essentials for the perfect home theater:

  • home theaterWall-Mounted Screen: When mounted on the wall, a high-definition screen of least 50 inches replicates the atmosphere of a movie theater. Wall-mounted screens also free up floor space for additional accessories. For a more dramatic effect, install a curtain that can be drawn to conceal the screen when not in use, and opened at the start of the movie. Some screens can also be lowered from the ceiling and lifted up when your film draws to a close.
  • Surround Sound: To make the experience as immersive as possible, choose the latest in surround sound technology. At the very least, invest in eight separate audio channels and five speakers that can be incorporated into your decor or hidden from sight. Some manufacturers make speakers with wood paneling, combining quality acoustics with chic design. Disguise any wiring and cables, or install speakers in the ceiling to create more space along your walls. Consider soundproofing the room, so the volume from your system doesn’t disturb the rest of the house.
  • Lighting: Lights that dim when the movie starts are an excellent way to recreate a theater experience. What’s more, automated dimmers make for a simple, cost-effective addition that’s easy to install. You can even add step lighting along walkways to illuminate a path to the room’s exit.
  • Quality Seating: Cozy reclining seats with cup holders add comfort and convenience to the viewing experience. If you want to take things to the next level, consider home control systems that bring the on-screen action to life with rumbling or vibrating seats. For the ideal view, opt for stadium-style seating.
  • Movie Projector: Conceal the projector in the ceiling or a tabletop when not in use. You can easily control a motorized projector lift with your smartphone. However, ensure the projector and lift run quietly so as not to disrupt the film.
