www.history.com says on this day, December 17 in 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful flight in history of a self-propelled, heavier-than-air aircraft. Orville piloted the gasoline-powered, propeller-driven biplane, which stayed aloft for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet on its inaugural flight.
LeVeck Lighting Products, Inc. office is in the Dayton area which is the birthplace of Orville Wright and where the Wright family spent the rest of their lives. Their history is evident in the area.
Dayton Aviation Heritage Museum is a National Park and educational center located in the original cycle shop owned by the Wright family.
The Wright Brothers Aviation Center has the remains of the 1905 Wright Flyer III which was donated by Orville Wright and is located in Carillon Park and is a National Historic Landmark.
There is a wonderful Wright Brothers work of art in downtown Dayton that depicts the actual flight, and a new memorial planned at the intersection of I-70 and I-75.
