Children from all over Hawaii once again made their way to the Pearlridge Center in Aiea on December 14th for the popular shopping center's 26th Annual Deaf and Signing Santa Program.

Deaf and hearing-impaired students from kindergarten through sixth grade had the opportunity to ride the Pearlridge Express—a scale-model, fully functional holiday train—enjoyed live entertainment, and, most importantly, had the opportunity to state their holiday wishes directly to Jolly Old Saint Nick.

The Annual Signing Santa Program

Shopping-CenterHeld each year since the early 1990s, this annual family event offers Hawaii’s hearing-impaired community an opportunity to coalesce for a warm, uplifting holiday event specially tailored for deaf children. Accompanied by a cadre of signing elves, Signing Santa Claus visits Pearlridge Center each December to reassure hearing-impaired children their wishes are just as important to Santa as anyone else’s.

This year, students from Keaau Elementary, Waimalu Elementary, Pomaikai Elementary, Lehua Elementary and the Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind all took part in the celebration.

Family Events At Pearlridge Center

Pearlridge Center is one of the Honolulu area’s premier shopping centers, with over 170 stores and restaurants, including top retailers and a host of entertainment options. More than a shopping mall, Pearlridge Center also hosts a vibrant weekly farmer’s market and frequent family events.

The holiday season is an especially busy time at this shopping center. The Pearlridge Express is open to all children under 48 inches tall every day throughout the holiday season. And, of course, the ubiquitous shopping mall Santa makes a daily appearance to pose for photos and hear wish lists.
