Sprucing Up For The Holydays
Yep it’s that time of year again when we prep our spaces for the holiday season ahead, and if you are like us, you like to do things as easy and stress free as possible. Start with a good old fashioned house cleaning and splurge on a professional if you are able to …nothing is more appealing than a clean uncluttered home…leaving more space for you and all the holiday guests that will be stopping by.
I like to come up with a color scheme and just repeat it all over the place – easy and effective. If you are a traditional think shiny red, green, gold and silver balls displayed on top of the tables or mantelpiece. For flowers I love using long-lasting winter greens as a base – think white pine and balsam branches – they last for a long time and can be refreshed by adding your favorite flower for a pop of color.
Don’t forget about holiday plants – poinsettias in red or white or Christmas cactus which last all year round, are basic staples….if you want to splurge a little amaryllis is a good choice. For that holiday smell I love to use scented pine cones – easy and inexpensive displayed in a bowl or around the base of your plants – you can purchase bags for about $5 from the local hardware store.
For easy holiday gifting you can’t beat flowers, plants and holiday gift baskets – perfect for one, or a group of many…and no size, color or personal preferences to think of!
