If you’re not happy with your smile’s appearance, there are a number of options available to you to correct it. Two common solutions are dentures and veneers—but which is best for your needs? To get a clear answer, it’s a good idea to schedule a visit with your family dentist to discuss this matter further. They’ll evaluate your particular damage, determining the right course of action.

Dentures

When it comes to restoring a smile, dentures are typically used when a person is missing one or more teeth. No matter what the cause, if you’re missing a single tooth, a dentist will generally suggest replacing it. Sometimes, they may recommend doing so with an implant, but frequently, they recommend dentures instead. While you might believe dentures are solely useful when you’ve lost all your teeth, in reality, you can also opt for partial dentures, which are often prescribed if a patient has only lost a few teeth.

Veneers

VeneersVeneers, on the other hand, are generally prescribed when an individual’s teeth are damaged, but not completely gone. A veneer consists of a thin strip, usually made out of porcelain, that’s designed to match the shape and color of a person’s natural tooth. It’s placed on the front of the tooth to conceal chips, staining, and other damage that can otherwise result in an unsightly smile.

Again, your dentist will be the one to confirm which option is right for your needs. That said, in general, if you aren’t missing your teeth, veneers are more likely the right choice. Dentures and implants are commonly used when you’re missing one or multiple teeth.
