Ornamental RestorationThe History of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church

This impressive cathedral-like house of worship was completed in 1889 by a dedicated group of Lutheran men and women in Indiana. It is the second oldest Lutheran Church in Indiana and is also one of the oldest in the Midwest. In 1903, a severe fire devastated the interior of the structure, leaving only the foundation and walls intact. Finally, the church was restored in 1905 and was able to welcome back its faithful congregation. By 1943, however, the church was in need of repairs. World War II caused a scarcity of building materials, and the work was delayed until after the war had ended. In 1947, the congregation was finally able to revisit their efforts and St. Paul’s received interior and exterior improvements over the following two years.

Old World Plastering Skills Make the Difference

This story of dedication and commitment to preservation has continued into the 21st century. The team at Old World Plastering will conduct ornamental restoration and provide plastering services to bring this 19th-century treasure back to its former glory. With their understanding of coffered ceilings, ceiling medallions, and cornice work, they can repair the water and structural damage that occurred over the years. They will pay particular attention to restoring the coffered ceiling panels which create a domed shape throughout the interior of the structure.
