Ballet allows you to tell intricate stories through fluid, beautiful movements. If you’ve always wanted to learn ballet, the best place to start is at the beginning. Since 1953, Joffrey Ballet School has been helping dancers of all levels of experience master their respective crafts. One way this is done is through adult workshops, which take place during various months at Joffrey’s Greenwich Village location.
The workshops are specifically designed for those who are new to the world of dance. Unlike the school’s other adult dance classes, the workshops do not require pre-registration, as they take place in a series as opposed to being one single drop-in class. All workshops take place at night, over the course of a few weeks.
If ballet is the style of dance that intrigues you, the Absolute Beginner Ballet Workshop will guide you in your very first steps. The program begins on Tuesday, April 1st and runs for twelve weeks, taking place every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. in studios three and six, respectively. The workshop is taught by experienced ballet dancer Jessica Kilpatrick, who has a rich performance and choreography history. The fee for registration is $20, which is waived if you are already a registered student at the dance school. Both the registration fee and a full payment of $420, by credit card only, must be submitted prior to the first class.
Dance encompasses a variety of different styles, each of which has its own unique way of conveying emotion. As one of the most traditional forms, ballet is a consistently beautiful art. Even if you want to learn ballet simply for the fun of it, the beginner’s workshop at Joffrey Ballet School will teach you all the basics.
