From carving pumpkins to dressing up and trick-or-treating, there are dozens of reasons why Halloween is a favorite holiday among children. Pumpkin Preschool is here to share some health and safety tips to help your family have a blast this Halloween. The day care center has been the go-to child care provider in Fairfield, CT, for more than 25 years.

Here are some tips from the day care center for having a safe and happy Halloween:

  • day care centerInspect Candy: Parents should inspect every piece of candy that lands in their child’s trick-or-treat bags. Candy with missing wrappers or evidence of tampering should be thrown away. You should also remove sweets that contain ingredients your child is allergic to.
  • Trick Or Treat Safely: Parents or a child care provider should accompany kids of every age as they trick-or-treat. Costumes should be fitted properly in order to avoid injuries from falls, and children need to be highly visible to motorists by wearing light-colored costumes and carrying glow sticks. It’s also smart to only trick-or-treat at houses with their lights on.
  • Balance Out Sweets: It’s safe to assume children will be indulging in sweets everywhere they go this month, from their day care center to play dates. Try to balance out the sweets with filling, nutritious meals. Let kids enjoy some candy after trick-or-treating, but ration out the bulk of the loot throughout the next month or more. Finally, remind children to brush their teeth thoroughly to reduce the risk of cavities.

Pumpkin Preschool will be celebrating Halloween in their pre-K programs with field trips to Benedicts Farm for pumpkin picking and hay rides. To schedule a tour of Fairfield’s most engaging day care center, call (203) 255-7505. You can also visit them online and like them on Facebook.
